Boys last day of school was Wednesday and Thursday morning we loaded up for our first leg of our trip to San Diego. We broke it up into 3 days since traveling 12-13 hours a day seemed like a lot with the boys a dog and Jake was pretty much a solo driver since I had to work on the way. Dad and Jake built Lucille a platform so she had a nice spot in the back and she slept pretty much the whole trip.
The biggest challenge was making sure she didn't eat the boys food and snacks
About a 5 hour drive from Austin was our first stop...Marfa!
We booked a TeePee at El Cosmico to stay in but it was over 100 degrees and the trailers had AC so we paid a little extra for the air conditioned upgrade

We had dinner at a cute dog friendly restaurant. Most of the funky and unique places to check out in Marfa are only open Friday-Sunday so we missed some stuff, but it was kind of ok since it was so dang hot out.
However we did go check out the bizarre Marfa lights and Jack was convinced he saw a UFO
We woke up and the morning temps were pretty nice
Everyone took advantage of the outdoor shower...we had one in the trailer too, but why not do this when you can?!?
Lucille was tolerant of Marfa, but this dog has a full body of thick fur in over 100 degree heat so I'm pretty sure this was not her favorite part of our trip
Luckily the morning was nice out so she sat outside and inside with me while I worked. Pretty fun view!
Once it started to warm up we loaded up and off we went. Stopped by this famous attraction on our way out!
Next stop Tucson!
The drive to Tucson was pretty uneventful. We found a pizza place that lets dogs inside which again was a great find since it was about 110 degrees. Yikes!

We've done lots of celebrating for Jack's birthday since we knew we would be out of town. His official birthday happened on our trip. These boys remember everything and since we started doing streamers and balloons when they were little, they talk about it every year...so he got his streamers and balloons in a hotel room!

It was super hot the whole drive to California. The final stretch we had to drive through a good 15-20 minutes of nothing on an incline in over 100 degree heat. I was scared our tires would explode, but apparently the biggest worry is your car overheating since there were water stations for your car every few miles.
We made it through and once we started to head down the weather dropped from over 100 degrees to 75 degrees within 30 minutes...it was pretty crazy, but glorious!
We rented a bungalow (which is another word for super tiny house) 2 blocks from the people beach and dog beach. Lucy was excited because our house has a little front yard she can lay out and watch the people and dogs walk by.
I teared up the first time she laid out because it reminded me of DeeBo...he LOVED San Diego and he LOVED waking up and laying out in the mornings. I miss that little guy!
We went to dinner and got in our first sunset at the beach!
